Malloy was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Malloy of Gilmore City and was serving with the army air forces in the European theater when he was killed last October. Malloy was conducted Friday, May 27 in St. John’s church by the Hartnett Johnson Post No. 239 with Commander F. L. Malcolm in charge. Rev. Robert Joynt officiated. Reburial was made at St. John’s cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were World War I veterans and cousins of the deceased, Emmet Malloy of Shenandoah; Ned Malloy of Des Moines, Marcus Malloy of Joyce; John Malloy of Clare and Will Donnelly of Gilmore City. The acting pallbearers were World War II veterans, two nephews and four cousins of the deceased, namely, Robt. Cavanaugh and Jack Griffin; Joe Hood of Fort Dodge, James Donnelly and Donald and Will Hood. Color bearers C. O. Walker, Robert Higgins, Paul Beiderman and Richard Schott of Rolfe. Color Guards were E.C. Stallcup and H. J. Juelfs and the firing squad was Chas Dunn, Robt. Suhrbier, Doyle Johnston, Ralph Jensen, Fred Fisher, Jr. Bob Schott, Clyde Behrendsen and Edward Stoulil, Jr., Robt. Paulson sounded taps. Sgt. Malloy’s plane was shot down over enemy territory Sept. 30, 1944 and was reported missing until Nov. 20, when he was found killed in action. He was a waist gunner with the 800th Bomber group. Born Nov. 24, 1914 the son of the late George and Bridget Malloy, he attended St. John’s school and later graduated from Denison High School. He went to Washington, D.C. where he was employed before enlisting. His parents, a sister and a brother preceded him in death. [From the Pocahontas (Iowa) Record-Democrat, Thursday, June 2, 1949.
