He worked in farming and steel manufacturing. Shelly loved gardening, especially growing roses. He enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. He also liked walking, riding his bicycle and cooking. Shelly was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and a special friend to many. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Ann Hepler; brothers, Crawford Locklear, Alex Locklear, Albert Locklear, Elmer Locklear, Ernest “EC” Locklear; sisters, Ila Locklear and Nancy Locklear. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 60 years, Vancie Mae Locklear of their home; sons, Jimmy Locklear, Mitchell Locklear, Ardell Locklear and wife Shirley, Ricky Locklear all of Laurinburg; his daughter, Brenda Smith and husband Frank of Laurinburg; daughter-in-law, Diane Locklear of Laurinburg; a brother, Marvin Locklear of Hamlet; eleven grandchildren including his special granddaughter, Heather; twenty five great grandchildren, several adopted grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
