Description	:	Sherman Alfred Schantz, 49, of Red Oak, formerly of this vicinity died suddenly of a heart attack, Monday night at his home after illness of only a few minutes. He was the son of C. J. Schantz of North Page Community southwest of Villisca, where he was born and grew to manhood. After farming north of Stanton and near Red Oak, he moved to Red Oak where he was proprietor of a cold storage and locker business several years ago. Villisca Review, Thursday, December 30, 1943, page 4 LAST RITS FOR SHERMAN SCHANTZ HELD IN RED OAK Funeral service for Sherman A. Schantz, who died suddenly of a heart attack Monday night of last week at his home in Red Oak, were held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Christian Church in Red Oak with Rev. Chas F. Kemp and Rev. Harold Bradshaw in charge. Burial was in Bethesda Cemetery. He was born in Page County, Iowa, on April 28, 1894, a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Schantz. He was married in Clarinda on October 3, 1917 to Helen Buffington, who survives, together with their two children, Pvt. First Class Dean Schantz of Camp Haan, California, and Darlene at home. He leaves also his father, residing in the North Page vicinity southwest of Villisca, three sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Jennie Davis, Redlands, California, Mrs. Delia Fitton, Billings, Montana, Mrs. Mabel Renander, Essex, Iowa, Charles Schantz, Stanton, Oscar, Schantz, Ava, Missouri, and Theo Schantz, Villisca. Mr. Schantz had lived in Montgomery County all his life except two years in Page County. He lived northwest of Red Oak until moving to Red Oak in 1938. He served on his district school board and was also president of the Red Oak township school board. He was a member of the Christian Church, Elks, Lions, and chamber of commerce.
