Charter Funerals has the arrangements. ************************************** Shirlee Maxine Short Ebberts March 11th, 1934 - October 29th, 2017 Obituary Shirlee Maxine Ebberts, of Emporia, entered into rest Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Jones Health Center at Presbyterian Manor in Emporia. She was 83. Shirlee was born to Valentine E. Short and Genevieve Shell Short on March 11, 1934 at a farm home near Eureka, Kansas. She was their only child. She attended school in District 67 Rural School for all of her grade school years. She graduated from Tonovay High School in 1952. Shirlee married Grogan Marshall Ebberts on May 20, 1951 at the Methodist Church in Eureka. They had three children; Crystal, Carmen and Jason. They resided in the Eureka area until they moved to Emporia in 1963. In Emporia Shirlee worked as an administrative assistant to the president of ESU (formerly KSTC). She then became the manager of the ESU bookstore for many years. Shirlee also worked in sales and service for Guaranteed Foods and several insurance and real estate companies. She will always be remembered by her family and friends as being a well groomed “to the 9s” quite the lady complete with nail polish, heels, and bright colored clothes. She was a long time member of Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Shirlee was instrumental in organizing the Mental Health Association in 1972; began the Compeer Program in Emporia, and started the Parkinson Support Group about 30 years ago and served as the leader until 2014 when her health did not allow her to be so active; she remained an active participant in the organization. She was a great example of courage in the face of such a debilitating disease. In 2015 she was named the resident of the year at Jones Health Center. Shirlee was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Grogan. She is survived by: daughter; Crystal (Earl) Hendrix. Grandson, Travis (Heather) Euler; great grandchildren, Abigail, Asher and Adaline Euler and one on the way. Daughter; Carmen (Ron) Wilson. Granddaughter, Amy (Jordan) Jenkins, Great grandchildren: Mason, Madison and MacLeigh Jenkins. Granddaughter; Nicole Wilson. Great grandchildren: Hadley and Brinley Hardin. Son; Jason (Sara) Ebberts; granddaughters, Logan and MacKenna Ebberts Shirlee bequeathed her body to medical science. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church or the Parkinson's Support Group.
