Description	:	WALKER, SHIRLEY ANN—Shirley Ann Walker, daughter of Glen and Helen (Wileman) Robinson was born in Sutton on June 30, 1938. She passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at the Nebraska Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Omaha, at the age of 68 years, six months and two days. Read More	WALKER, SHIRLEY ANN—Shirley Ann Walker, daughter of Glen and Helen (Wileman) Robinson was born in Sutton on June 30, 1938. She passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at the Nebraska Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Omaha, at the age of 68 years, six months and two days. She was one of three children in the family. Shirley attended elementary school in Sutton and high school in Geneva. While growing up, she worked at several cafes and the Fairmont Nursing Home. Shirley completed the 11th grade after which time she left to help raise the children of the man she would soon marry, Francis D. Walker of Geneva. Francis had three children: Dwain, Alicia, and Randal with his first wife, Maxine, who passed away at a young age from cancer. Shirley and Francis were married on Feb. 16, 1958, in Lexington, and to this union were born a son, Mark Allen and a daughter, Brenda Kay. Francis and Shirley moved their family from the farm into town. In 1963, they moved from town back to the farm, which would remain their home for several years. Once the children were in school, Shirley started working at the high school as a cook. After 19 years, she retired from Geneva Public Schools and returned home to take care of her family once again. Shirley loved to cook for her family; always making sure the men had their meals even if that meant taking the meals to the field. She took great pride and joy in her grandchildren. Whether it was spending time going to their games, swimming, reading with them, teaching them how to bake or the one thing that could always put a smile on her face….teaching them how to drive, STOP sign, 1…2…3 GO! (tires spinning and gravel flying.) Shirley enjoyed baking, always contributing and donating her time to the United Methodist Women’s Circle and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary to which she was a member since 1958. If she wasn’t baking, you could find Shirley outside in her flower beds, making sure the weeds were pulled and the blooms abundant. She enjoyed spending time with friends and volunteering at the local nursing home. Shirley played Bingo and loved to go on day bus trips with her friends in the community. If she had the chance, Shirley was on her way to the casinos, where she loved to play the slots and meet new people. In the fall of 2004, Shirley began her struggle with liver disease. It was with God’s grace she received her first liver transplant on Feb. 14, 2005. She bounced back before our very eyes. No words can ever be expressed to the family who so graciously donated their loved one’s organ so that Shirley could once again have quality of life. On Aug. 6, 2006, she hugged her husband, not knowing it would be the last time, and was admitted to the Nebraska Medical Center for complications with her liver. Once again by God’s grace, she received her second liver transplant on Aug. 17. Shortly after surgery, she developed several complications and pneumonia that would land her on the ventilator for several months. During this time, her husband of 48 years passed away, and the news of his death was not shared with her until only recently when it seemed to be nothing but a dream to her. It was only in the last few weeks that Shirley was able to grieve the loss of her husband and spend one last Christmas with her family before her illness would take over for the last time. Shirley was preceded in death by her stillborn brother; her parents, Glen and Helen; her sister, Ruby Nimie; and husband, Francis. She was survived by her children and their spouses Mark and wife Brenda; Brenda Armknecht and husband, Chris, Dwain and wife Linda, Alicia Rhodes, Randal and wife, Kathy; grandchildren, Amanda Walker, Tyler Walker, Makenzy Walker, Tyler Armknecht, Stephanie Walker, Rich Rhodes, Tim Rhodes, Brian Rhodes, Ron Walker, Chad Walker, Lori Nunnenkamp, and Andrea Bolte; 12 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends who will miss her dearly. Funeral services for Shirley were held on Jan. 5 at the Geneva United Methodist Church with Pastor Ron Harris officiating. Susan Kleinschmidt accompanied Delwin Myers who sang “How Great Thou Art,” and “On Eagle’s Wings. Pallbearers were Chad, Ron and Tyler Walker, Brian and Timothy Rhodes, and Tracey Nunnenkamp.
