Description	:	Shirley T. Tomney Shirley Ann Turner Tomney, 79, of Shenandoah, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015, at Harbor Chase Memory Care Lady Lake, Fla. She was born Sept. 23, 1935, in Shenandoah, and was a daughter of the late Floyd and Ella V. Lam Turner. She had been an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and served as Lay Leader for a number of years, as well as Trinity Ladies Aid president. Read More	Shirley T. Tomney Shirley Ann Turner Tomney, 79, of Shenandoah, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015, at Harbor Chase Memory Care Lady Lake, Fla. She was born Sept. 23, 1935, in Shenandoah, and was a daughter of the late Floyd and Ella V. Lam Turner. She had been an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and served as Lay Leader for a number of years, as well as Trinity Ladies Aid president. She graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1954 and was crowned "Miss Shenandoah 1952" and also was "May Queen." She entered the school of nursing at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in 1954, graduated in 1957 and was employed by the hospital at that time. She also was a Private Duty nurse. In 1959 she was employed by the Virginia State Health Department, working in Page County. She began work as a relief nurse with Merck & Company, Elkton in 1968, then full time nurse in 1974 until retirement from Merck in 1993. In October 1957, she married Lee Roy Tomney, who passed away in 2010. She is survived by a son Charles Lee (Chuck) Tomney of The Villages, Fla.; a grand-son; and two sisters, Lois Turner Will of Richmond and Elaine Turner Stillwell of Stanley. In keeping with her wishes there will not be a viewing. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2015, at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Shenandoah by the Revs. Ellen H. Martin and A.D. Tice. Burial will follow at the George Comer Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
