Inurnment in the Union Cemetery. Shirley Colleen Vieman was born on November 25, 1931, on a farm southeast of Eldora, a daughter of Cleon and Hattie Hoyt Vieman. Her family lived on the same farm during her school years. Following graduation from Eldora High School in 1949, Shirley was employed as a clerk typist and filing clerk with Marshalltown Canning Company. On October 20, 1950, Shirley married Dale Roy Landt at First Baptist Church in Eldora. Dale and Shirley lived all of their married life on the same farm south of Union. They were the parents of Rick, Steve, and Todd. Shirley enjoyed the farm life of working the land with Dale. She exemplified the phrase of unconditional love by caring for Dale for 32 years, following a farm accident. Shirley had several passions, she was a C.N.A. and enjoyed working at the Marshalltown Area Community Hospital West. She served her Union and Whitten communities as a new correspondent with the Marshalltown Times-Republican and KFJB Radio. Shirley was a den mother for Cub Scouts, assistant 4-H leader, Sunday school teacher, past Noble Grand of the Daffodil Rebekah Lodge #193, and District Noble Grand. She graduated from a Dale Carnegie Course and served as a Dale Carnegie Course graduate assistant. Shirley received the Eliza Armstrong Cox Fellowship Award in 1995. She was active on the South Hardin Manor Board, Union Cemetery Association Board, Farm Safety for Just Kids program, Agri Ability, and Career Support for Easter Seals. Shirley is survived by her sons, Rick (Nancy) Landt of Liscomb, Iowa, Steve (Jinny) Landt of Union, and Todd (Teresa) Landt of Charles City, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Erin Landt, Adrienne (Derek) Kennedy, Jessica (Jered) Johnston, Caitlin Landt, Tanya (Brad) Houser, Shaley, Keely, Shau, and Jace Landt; seven great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Vieman; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; her parents, Cleon and Hattie Vieman; three sisters, Wilma Mannetter, Winona Tordoff, and Hazel McBride; and two brothers, Wayne Vieman and Lowell Vieman.
