Description	:	Shirley Joy Henry, 89, of West Des Moines, formerly of Ottumwa, died at 8:12 a.m. March 11, 2019 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born October 17, 1929 in Ottumwa to Curtis and Nella Wheeler Leedom. She married Walter Raymond Henry on February 19, 1948 and he preceded her in death on November 3, 2011. Shirley was a graduate of Ottumwa High School and Iowa Business School. She had worked as an executive assistant at John Morrell & Co. before raising her family. She moved from Ottumwa to Mason City in 1972 and has been a resident of Des Moines since 1974. Shirley had been a member of East End Presbyterian Church. She was a den mother and active in Cub Scouts. Shirley taught classes on making doll houses, she collected antiques and loved to travel, but the center of her life was her family. Surviving are her sons, Mike (DeAnna) Henry of Pryor, OK, Brent (Lori) Henry of Austin, MN and Scott Henry of Urbandale; 5 grandchildren, Angie, Matt, Mick, Presleigh and Jaden; 5 great-grandchildren, Kai, Kassidy, Shyanne, Silas and Ronan; a niece, Kim (Gary) Gale of Arizona and a special friend, Chris Hoover. She was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Rev. Milton Forbes. Graveside services and burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
