Description	:	Walter Raymond Henry, 83, of 504 Cedar Crest Drive, West Des Moines, formerly of Ottumwa, died at 8 am on Nov. 3, 2011, at Iowa Methoidist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born Nov. 24, 1927, in New Brunswick, N.J., to John and Mary Rose Brown Henry. He married Shirley J. Leedom on Feb. 19, 1948. He was born Nov. 24, 1927, in New Brunswick, N.J., to John and Mary Rose Brown Henry. He married Shirley J. Leedom on Feb. 19, 1948. Ray was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S.Navy aboard the USS Kearsarge. He was a resident of Ottumwa until 1972 when he moved to Mason City, and then to Des Moines in 1974. He worked for Borden's in Ottumwa and was the manager for Meadow Gold in Des Moines until 1993. He and his son, Scott, owned and operated Premier Auto Sales in Des Moines since 1993. He had been a member of East End Presbyterian Church in Ottumwa. Ray was active with the Boy Scouts and Little League and Babe Ruth, where he served as umpire. Surviving are his wife, Shirley; three sons, Mike Henry of Tulsa, Okla., Brent(Lori)Henry of Austin, Minn., Scott Henry of Urbandale; three grandchildren, Angie Albright, Matt Henry and Mick Henry; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elise, Mary and Wanda, all of Michigan; a sister-in-law, Betty Forbes of Ottumwa; and a niece, Kim Gale of Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Bill and Jim Henry; and a sister, Helen. Funeral services will be 1 pm Monday at Reece Funeral Home; with Rev. Charles McCracken officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military services conducdted by O.B.Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service on Monday. A memroial has been established in his name.
