Description	:	WELLINGTON - Shirley William Cowette, 83, of Wellington, went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 6, 2017, with his family by his side. Shirley remained at home where he wanted to be until his passing.Shirley was born Dec. 10, 1933, in Kingsbury, to Avis (Ward) Curtis and Amos Cowette. Read More	WELLINGTON - Shirley William Cowette, 83, of Wellington, went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 6, 2017, with his family by his side. Shirley remained at home where he wanted to be until his passing.Shirley was born Dec. 10, 1933, in Kingsbury, to Avis (Ward) Curtis and Amos Cowette. He married Madelyn Farrin on Oct. 17, 1952.Shirley Cowette lived in Wellington where he and his wife Madelyn raised their family. Shirley was a hard worker and worked for many years as a cutter in the shoe industry. During his career he worked at Ameri-tex, Norrwock Shoe, and Dexter Shoe where he retired from in 1998. Shirley enjoyed going to camp and spending time with his family and friends. Shirley loved sitting around telling hunting stories and sharing many memories with those that loved him. Shirley also enjoyed going to country music shows at the Harmony grange hall. He was a man that was always there for his family whenever there was a need. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His smiling face was one that will be missed by all. Shirley would always greet you with a smile. Shirley is survived by one son Dennis Cowette and his wife Tammie of Athens, one daughter Gail Lake and her husband George of Wellington; two granddaughters, Tylene Bergeron and her husband John of Skowhegan, Jessica Bishop and her husband James of Skowhegan; two great-grandsons, Logan Fowler of Skowhegan, Joseph Bishop of Skowhegan, two great-granddaughters, Laurelynne Fowler of Skowhegan, Lindsay Simpson and her husband David of Wellington; two brothers, Clair Cowette of Palmyra, Levi Cowette and his wife Lucy of Wellington, one sister Leone Everett of Athens; close friend Nellie Bussell of Pittsfield; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Shirley was predeceased by his wife of 51 years Madelyn; his parents, Avis and Amos Cowette; one grandson Steven Lewis Lake and his wife Amy; one great-grandson Coty Lewis Lake, one great-granddaughter Monica Raye Lake; one sister Betty Bubier and one brother Rodney Cowette; his stepfather, Stanley Curtis. A special thanks to the people that helped to care for Shirley during his illness. A special thank you to his granddaughter Tylene for all the care she gave to him as well as Lindsay and Dave Simpson so he was able to remain in his own home during his illness. A burial will be held in the spring at the Mount Rest Cemetery in Athens, Maine. (Central Maine Newspapers 2/9/2017 and Smart & Edwards Funeral Home)
