She was born Sept. 2, 1934, in Brighton, the daughter of Harry N. and Isabelle (York) Farrin. Madelyn married Shirley Cowette on Oct. 17, 1952. She was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Even when she was sick, if a family member needed her she was always there. She will be greatly missed by her family. Cowette, 69, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at her home. She was born Sept. 2, 1934, in Brighton, the daughter of Harry N. and Isabelle (York) Farrin. Madelyn married Shirley Cowette on Oct. 17, 1952. She was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Even when she was sick, if a family member needed her she was always there. She will be greatly missed by her family. She loved going to camp and reading. Madelyn graduated from Somerset Academy in 1952. She worked at the Wellington school with her husband, doing janitorial work. She also worked at the post office in Wellington, and later at Delong until they closed. She went back to school to take some college classes and volunteered at Redington-Fairview General Hospital until her health got bad. Madelyn is survived by her husband of 51 years, Shirley Cowette of Wellington; one daughter, Gail and her husband, George Lake, of Wellington; one son, Dennis and his wife, Tammie Cowette, of Athens; one brother, Leslie Farrin of Fryeburg; three sisters, Flora Williams of Skowhegan, Ada Small of Yarmouth and Sally Moloney of Bingham; two granddaughters, Tylene and her husband, David Fowler, of Skowhegan and Jessica R. Cowette of Athens; one grandson, Steven and his wife, Amy Lake, of Wellington; three great-granddaughters, Lindsay Joyce, Laurelynn Fowler of Skowhegan and Monica Lake of Wellington; two great-grandsons, Logan Fowler of Skowhegan and Coty Lake of Wellington; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Madelyn was predeceased by brothers Blaine, Enoch and Alton Goodrich, and Tom and Lyman Farrin; also by sisters Mollie Reynolds, Rita Doran, Hilda Bray and Barbara Martin. Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at Smart and Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21, at Wellington Evangelical Community Church with the Rev. Levi Pratt officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Rest Cemetery in Athen
