Description	:	Sidney Graves. Died of pneumonia 4-8-1921. He was the son of William and Mary Graves. He was born in South Thomaston, ME. 7-13-1851. He moved to Presque Isle when he was about 6 years old. He left school at 15 years old and worked various odd jobs until an opening presented itself to enter the employment of Dr. GH Freeman, who was running a small hardware store on Main St. He then operated a coal and wood business. He was born in South Thomaston, ME. 7-13-1851. He moved to Presque Isle when he was about 6 years old. He left school at 15 years old and worked various odd jobs until an opening presented itself to enter the employment of Dr. GH Freeman, who was running a small hardware store on Main St. He then operated a coal and wood business. He sold that business and then bought out the interest of TH Belyea and Co., in what is now the Graves Hardware Co., in which he was associated as president up until the time of his death. Besides his long connection with the hardware business, he was identified with many other business interests, such as the Presque Isle Water Co., director of the Presque Isle National Bank. He was one of the chief workers in the building up of the Presque Isle General Hospital and served for a long period as its director. He was a pioneer in the movement to secure electric lights for the village and was prominent in the first company formed for this purpose. He was also associated in founding the business of the Aroostook Wholesale Grocery Co. and was chosen president. He was also a member of the board of trustees of Houlton Savings Bank. He is survived by his wife, Laila (Smith) Graves, a daughter, Dorothy, a brother, William and a sister, Lillias. Burial Fairmount cemetery.
