Description	:	Sidney Lynn Hilliker, 95 of Gordon, Nebraska, died Sunday, August 26, 2012 at Gordon Memorial Hospital. He was born October 28, 1916 in Centerville, Iowa to Clayton and Esther (Giesler) Hilliker. They came to the Sandhills by covered wagon when Lynn was approximately one year old and homesteaded in what is called the Dippin' Vat Valley and Sandy Richards. The horses were then shipped to... Read More	Sidney Lynn Hilliker, 95 of Gordon, Nebraska, died Sunday, August 26, 2012 at Gordon Memorial Hospital. He was born October 28, 1916 in Centerville, Iowa to Clayton and Esther (Giesler) Hilliker. They came to the Sandhills by covered wagon when Lynn was approximately one year old and homesteaded in what is called the Dippin' Vat Valley and Sandy Richards. His family sold the ranch and moved to town so he could go to school in Gordon, Nebraska where he played football. He quit school after the 11th grade to break horses for the Army. The horses were then shipped to Fort Robinson. Lynn worked for many prominent ranches like the U-Cross and Mose Roseter, Minors, McGinley and the Bowering. Lynn enlisted in the Army and served his country as a medic during WWII. On May 29, 1953, he married Bonnie Reed. He continued to work for ranches until 1957 when they moved to town, he took over as yard boss at Gordon Livestock. After several years he started working part time for the Gordon Police department and eventually became a full time police officer for 20 years. He continued to work for the City of Gordon until he retired. He never gave up his cowboy roots. He raised cattle of his own, broke horses, and roped for as long as he could. He enjoyed his miniature ponies, gardening, music, and pictures. He took great pleasure in his family and telling stories. Survivors include: wife Bonnie of Gordon, son Bill and his wife Deano Hilliker of Kilgore, Nebraska, daughter Tami and her husband Dan Bishop of Gordon, Nebraska, family by love Marlys Essex of Morrill, Nebraska, 14 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by; parents Clayton and Esther, son Gerald, daughters Lynda and Wanda, brothers Murray, Dean, and Kenneth, sisters Aloha and Norma. He could swing a hungry loop and as a rule, a critter generally stuck its head in at first throw. Lynn trailed cattle 1000's of miles over these Sandhills and his sense of humor made us all laugh. He will be greatly missed. Great and small, he loved us all. Funeral services were held Friday August 31, 2012, 2:00pm at Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, with Pastor Bill Combs officiating. Burial with Military Honors was held in the Gordon Cemetery. Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home of Gordon, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
