Signe Katherine Luttio was born April 1, 1930, to John William and Matilda Katherine (Kleemola) Luttio in rural Frederick, SD. She attended school in Savo Township and Frederick, and graduated from Frederick High School in 1948. She attended Northern State University for a teaching certificate and taught rural school in Savo Township. Signe was united in marriage to Stanley Geranen on April 14, 1949, in Frederick. The couple made their home on a farm in the Frederick area, until they moved to Aberdeen in 1978. Signe worked at Dakota Midland Hospital until 1981, when she went to work at Control Data for 8 years, then worked at St. Luke's Hospital as a Home Health Aide until retiring in 1992. In addition to being a wife and mother, Signe also helped her husband on the farm for many years and had many community interests. She was involved with Home Extension for 17 years, and attended the National Conferences in Brookings SD. She enjoyed the years teaching Sunday School, active in WELCA, and Farmers Union Youth programs. In her spare time, she loved knitting, sewing, making quilts and cooking. Grateful for sharing Signe's life are her children: Alan (Peggy) Geranen of Frederick, SD and Diane (John) Von Bank of Shakopee, MN; one grandson, Mark (Shannon) Brooks of Medina, MN; two sisters, Lempi Pesio of New Brighton, MN and Sadie Luttio of Spring Grove, MN. Signe is preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; her parents, William and Katherine; two brothers, Leo and Edward Luttio; and three sisters, Elna and Meimi Luttio, and Mary Aileen Fremersdorf. - Schriver's Memorial Mortuary
