Description	:	Sigrid Ingeborg Maunu was born on October 3, 1908 in Frederick, South Dakota. She lived to be 102 years and 7 months. Sigird went to be with her Lord on May 22, 2011. She was one of eight children of Herman and Elsa (Pakkanen) Groop. Sigrid graduated in 1927 and went on to obtain a teaching certificate from The Normal in Aberdeen. Read More	Sigrid Ingeborg Maunu was born on October 3, 1908 in Frederick, South Dakota. She lived to be 102 years and 7 months. Sigird went to be with her Lord on May 22, 2011. She was one of eight children of Herman and Elsa (Pakkanen) Groop. Sigrid graduated in 1927 and went on to obtain a teaching certificate from The Normal in Aberdeen. She taught grades K-8 in a one room school house for 2 years. The one area she had trouble with in teaching was discipline. On July 17, 1930 she married Delbert. As a new bride she was busy with hard work, sacrifices, babies, raising a family, gardening, chickens, cows, cooking for the hungry threshing crews and plenty of Sunday dinner guests. She often would sew new outfits for the young family from old garments. She was thrifty, recycling and reusing before "green" was in. She also was a Sunday School teacher and organized a Sunday School for her children and others. They lived in the Frederick area for 27 years and then moved to Barnum, MN. There they resided for 7 years before moving west to the LaGrande and Portland area in 1965. In 1970 they moved to Lafayette where they continued to farm on a miniature scale raising filberts and blueberries. She attended the Apostolic Lutheran Church. Delbert and Sigrid were married nearly 66 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Delbert, daughter Linda, son David, daughter-in-law Pat Maunu, 2 granddaughters; DeDe Barney McGlaughlin and Barbara Moser Ollis. Sigrid is survived by many loved ones including sons Clifford Maunu of Raymond, Washington and Jimmy (Barbara) of Vancouver, Washington. Daughters, Ethel (Chuck) Moser of Spokane, Washington, Kathleen (Millard) Barney of Esko, MN, and Lorinda (Thomas) Lappi of Newberg. And daughter in-law Carol Maunu of Portland. 19 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, many friends and extended family have been blessed to have Sigrid in their lives all these years. Her love and gracious manner will be long remembered. Her Funeral Service will be Thursday, May 26, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. in the Apostolic Lutheran Church, Tualatin, with Pastors Tom Lappi and Jim Maunu officiating. Arrangements are in the care of Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel, a Golden Rule Funeral Home.
