His surname became "Anderson" via Norwegian tradition since his father was "Anders". Sigurd and his family began their journey to the new world sometime in late May 1899. Beginning their journey from the area of Mosjøen (Note: Emigration documents list his father as Anders Daniel Arnts) Norway which is in close proximity to Vefsn Norway (3.6 km or about 2 ¼ miles). They traversed 391 km (242 miles) to Tronheim Norway the family then boarded the SS Spero (1) of the Wilson line on 24 May 1899 Upon leaving Trondheim the ship sailed to Kristiansund Norway, Aalesund Norway then across the North Sea to Lund England. After an overnight stay in Lund, the group traveled by train to Liverpool England. Upon boarding the SS Californian they sailed from Liverpool England and arrived in Quebec on 11 Jun 1899. After a stop of a few hours in Quebec Canada the Arntson's entered the US on 11 June 1899 via St Albans, Vermont. On June 12th "Conrad Anderson" (listed as both son and son-in law) paid the families $15.00 entry fee (in Vermont). At this point the family identified Benson Minnesota as their intended destination. Later they lived in Langhei Township, Pope Minnesota. On 31 Mar 1906 Sigurd married Helena Henrickson in Hayward Wisconsin. The union produced one child Arnold Helmer Anderson born: 1906. In 1921 Sigurd moved to Sioux Falls South Dakota presumably after the death of his first wife to be near his sister Annette.
