Description	:	Silas A. Guthrie Dies in Denver Silas A. Guthrie, a pioneer citizen of Converse County, died in a Denver hospital last week, following an operation. He was 76 years of age. Burial was at Clarks, Neb. Silas A. Guthrie was one of the early settlers in this county, coming here in 1879. Guthrie was one of the early settlers in this county, coming here in 1879. With his brother he engaged in the live stock business, owning what is now the Dunn ranch on the LaBonte. He was one of the early county officials, being elected county clerk over Carl Garver, now mayor of Des Moines, by one vote. Later Mr. Guthrie moved to Moorcroft where he was one of the largest sheep owners of that section of Wyoming and later was engaged in the banking business. He was a frequent visitor to Douglas to see his sister, Mrs. L. W. Clelland, and the many friends he had here. He came to Wyoming around 1880 and along with his brother, W.E. Guthrie, engaged in cattle and sheep business. In about 1899 Guthrie settled in Moorcroft, Wyoming, and raised sheep until his death in 1923. He was principal owner in the Empire Sheep Company (along with partner, E.L. Jackson) and the Rodney King Sheep Company. From the description of S.A. Guthrie papers, 1867-1938.
