Son of Benjamin Baxter and Christena Wells OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, June 22, 1939 SILAS BAXTER Silas Baxter, son of Benjamin and Christena Baxter, was born at Norwood, Iowa, on February 8, 1869 and died in Chariton on June 16, 1939, at the age of 70 years, 4 months and 8 days. He spent the greatest part of his life in Lucas county, and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Helen Smith. During his illness he was tenderly cared for by his daughter and by his son, Orral Baxter. Those left to mourn his loss are his two children, Mrs. Helen Smith and Orral Baxter, both of Chariton; two brothers, Leonard Baxter, of Covina, Calif., and Ben Baxter, of near Chariton; one sister, Mrs. Nan Sinift, of Chariton; three grandchildren, Homer, Dorothy and Junior Smith, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Beardsley funeral home Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, by the Rev. Harry Secor, and burial was in the Wells cemetery.
