Second he married Winfree Hancock 15 Aug 1861, and their children are: George W, James S, and Jessie Cordelia (Cone) Martin. On 1 Sept 1862 at age 48, Silas enlisted at Atchison, Kansas in the 13 Kansas Vol. Inf. Co D, (Civil War.) Service began 19 Sept 1862 and he was mustered out 26 June 1865.
