Morton was born December 18, 1854 in McMinnville, Oregon in Yamhill County and moved to Yakima, Washington at the age of 16 years, where he remained until 1890, at which time he moved to Tillamook, Oregon, where he made his home until 1915, moving from there to Ridgefield, living here until the time of his death. Silas first married Mary L. C. Barnhart, 12 October 1879, in Yakima, Yakima County, Washington. Upon Mary's death, he married Flora E. Morton, in 1896. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Seventh Day Adventist Church with Elder Jacobs of Vancouver, Washington officiating, interment being in the Odd Fellow Cemetery in Ridgefield, Washington. His immediate survivors are his wife, Mrs. Flora Morton of Ridgefield and one sister, Mrs. Melinda Sailing of Weston, Oregon, both of whom have the sympathy of their friends in this hour of their bereavement.
