Description	:	Silas Warren married his first wife, Frances Ann Forsythe, on May 4, 1882 in Wapello County, Iowa and they had three children: Dora Elizabeth, James T. and Fannie S. Warren. Frances died soon after the birth of their last child. The following is taken from the 1887 History of Wapello County, Iowa, pages 206 & 207. ---SILAS WARREN, one of the well-to-do merchants of the city of Chillicothe, is a native of this county, and was born Feb. 2, 1850. He is the son of Tillman and Elizabeth (Nye) Warren, the father a native of Ohio and the mother of Germany. ---Silas Warren is essentially a self-made man. He commenced life a poor boy, and is a striking illustration of what may be accomplished by resolution, industry and perseverance. He was but five years of age when the father of the family was taken away, and as soon as old enough he assisted in the labors around the homestead. His education was necessarily limited, but he was a bright and intelligent lad, and kept his eyes open to what was going on in the world around him. He thus became possessed of a good fund of general information, and now ranks among the intelligent and useful men of his community. He was engaged in farming pursuits until 1877, and then learned the butcher's trade, which he followed for nine years with gratifying success. He then sold out his interest in this business, and removing to Chillicothe purchased a stock of general merchandise, and has been in trade since that time. He carries a stock of about $6,000, and his trade is prosperous and constantly increasing. He seems admirably adapted to the business, is courteous and obliging in his manners, and has taken the lead among the mercantile interest of this city. Mr. Warren has been prominent in the affairs of Columbia Township since his first arrival here. After occupying several of the minor offices, in the fall of 1886 he was elected Justice of the Peace on the Democratic ticket by a large majority, but moved out of the precinct, and consequently died not qualify. ---The marriage of Silas Warren and Miss Fannie A. Forsythe was celebrated in Highland Township on the 4th of May, 1882. Mrs. Warren was born in Wapello County on the 3d of October, 1854, and is the daughter of James and Sarah (Perry) Forsythe, natives of Ireland, who came to this country in 1845, locating near Elizabethtown, Pa., coming to Wapello County in 1851, where they became highly respected citizens, but are now both deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Warren became the parents of two children-Dora E. and James Tillman. The later died when eleven days old. Mrs. Warren is connected with the Presbyterian Church. Our subject has been a liberal contributor to the church and Sunday school, and is the staunch friend of education and all other measures calculated for the advancement and welfare of the community. He is Democratic in politics, a thorough-going business man, a valued member of society, and in all respects is entitled to rank among the best citizens of Chillicothe. Silas Warren (age 68) married a second time to M. Viola Forsyth (age 54) on April 4, 1918 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was the daughter of Thompson and Sarah McKinley Forsyth. The marriage record also states that this was the second marriage for Silas and the first for Viola. Silas & Mary Viola Warren are listed on the 1920 3rd Ward Oskaloosa, Iowa census enumerated in January and after Silas died Viola is listed on the 1925, 1930 and 1940 census as a widow. ----------------------------------------------- NOTE: Not sure why Viola's cemetery stone has her as the wife of W.H. Warren!
