Hamilton and his wife Hannah Stockwell (who are also buried in this cemetery, along with Simeon's brothers Alonson Hamilton, who died at the age of 21, and his brother Wright Hamilton (1830-1877), and his brother Francis Marion Hamilton (1841-1915). --- Note: Simeon's father Nathaniel Hamilton lived on the North-half of Section 16, in Bertrand township. He came to Berrien County Michigan in June of 1834, and was Buchanan City treasurer in 1859. They had four children, one dying in infancy. --- 1. Ida J. Hamilton. b. Jan. 22, 1856, in Bakertown, MI. m. Riley Wright (from Ionia Co. MI), (son of Amos Wright and Caroline Harmer), on Jan. 2, 1880, in Berrien Co. Michigan. Note: Riley Wright, age 21, of Buchanan, Michigan, a lumberman, and Ida Hamilton, age 23, of Buchanan, Michigan, were married on Jan. 2, 1880, by John C. Dick, Justice of the Peace. Wittiness' were (Ida's parents), Simeon and Huldah Hamilton (Marriage Book F, Page 10). They had a son Montey (or Monly) Wright (nicknamed "Belmont" Wright), who was born on April 22, 1880, in Bertrand twp. Berrien Co. Michigan (three months after they were married), and he died on Aug. 5, 1880, in Bertrand twp. Berrien County Michigan. Ida and Riley Wright were later divorced, and Ida took back her maiden name. Riley was born Aug. 17, 1852, in New York, and died June 29, 1921, in Berlin, Ionia County Michigan. d. Ida died Sept. 7, 1927. Buried: Bakertown Cemetery, near her parents. --- 2. John M. Hamilton. b. 1858. m. Bertha Allen, the daughter of Elisha Alllen, on March 22, 1888, in Berrien Springs, Michigan. d. 1936. Buried: Galien Township Cemetery. --- 3. Alanson "Lon" Hamilton. b. 1860, in MI. d. July 30, 1907, in Bertrand twp. Berrien County Michigan, at the age of 47. Buried: Oak Ridge Cemetery. --- 4. Bertie (Milton?) Hamilton. b. 1876. d. Aug. 17, 1876, age 2 months, and 6 days (per cemetery records). Buried: Bakertown Cemetery. Listed in cemetery records as "Bertie". Note: Berrien Co. MI death records do not list a "Bertie", but they do list a "Milton" Hamilton, who died on July 22, 1876, the son of Simeon and Huldah Hamilton (?) _______________________________ Simeon Hamilton died in Dayton, in Bertrand Township (near Buchanan), Michigan, on Sept. 14, 1901, at the age of 69 years, 8 months, and 14 days, of organic heart disease (per his death certificate). Note: See his death certificate at: www.seekingmichigan.org ----------------------------------- Simeon's obituary was published in the "Buchanan Record" newspaper in Buchanan, Michigan on Thursday, Sept. 26, 1901, page 5, column 4. It reads as follows: --- OBITUARY. Simeon Hamilton was born in Ohio, Jan. 1, 1832, and died in Dayton, Mich. Sept. 14, 1901, aged 69 years, 8 months, and 11 days. Mr. Hamilton was married to Hulda [Huldah] Smith, July 3 [2], 1854. To them were born four children, one dying in infancy [Bertie]. He leaves to morn his loss, a wife and three children, one sister, and one brother, besides a host of relatives and friends. The funeral was held on Sunday, Sept. 15, conducted by Rev. E. R. Black.
