Description	:	Born in Germany. Birth and death dates are approximate. Simeon was born between 1794-1805 and died before 1840. Some researchers have suggested that he was a follower of Rev. Joseph Willis and followed him from South Carolina, to Mississippi, and then to Louisiana. He is listed in the 1820 & 1830 Censuses for Louisiana. From descendant Janitra Strother, "Simeon Maricle (1794) and his wife Missioniah are buried in Occupy #1 cemetery. Her parents, sister and brother-in-law are also buried there. My grandmother (Allie Mae Lambright Maricle) told me that Simeon was 13 when he snuck on a ship from Germany. I believe that maybe the reason information on his ancestry is not available. I was also told that Missioniah was of Indian/Spanish descent." He married Mary Missaniah Hite 22 Jul 1817 in Opelousas, St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. He was the father of the following children: Joseph Maricle, Mary "Polly" Maricle Perkins, William "Billy" Maricle, Sarah Maricle Ashworth, Annie Maricle Ashworth, Andrew Jackson Maricle, and Simeon "Sim" M. Maricle. There may have been more children. The Maricle name is sometimes spelled Mericle. The German spelling is Merkel and Markle.
