Description	:	Simeon Sawyer was born in Hopewell Township, Marshall county, Illinois, January 27, 1845, and passed away April 12, 1930, at his home at 1625 South street, Lincoln, Nebraska; aged eighty-five years, two months and fifteen days. He was married April 7, 1874 to Frances J. Devalon of Henry, Illinois. Seven children were born to this union, six of whom were in attendance at the funeral. He was married April 7, 1874 to Frances J. Devalon of Henry, Illinois. Seven children were born to this union, six of whom were in attendance at the funeral. He is survived by his wife, and four daughters, Miss Frances and Mrs. L.W. Dumond of Lincoln; Mrs. L. Clare Searles of Anderson, Indiana; and Mrs. William Douglas of Norfolk; two sons Harlan L. and Russell D. of Lincoln; Jennie Gail having passed on in infancy. There are sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Sawyer came to Fillmore county, Nebraska April 14, 1874, and settled on a farm four miles southeast of Fairmont, which he had purchased in September, 1871. Moving into Fairmont in 1884, he resided there until 1901, when he went to Wheeler county, where he lived until the time he moved to Lincoln in 1917. Mr. Sawyer was county commissioner of Fillmore county, postmaster at Fairmont, active in politics, and served on school boards for almost fifty years continuously. He was a member of Fairmont lodge No. 48, A.F.&A.M. and afterwards at Lincoln. Mr. Sawyer was always interested in educational work and everything which served to better his fellowmen and the community in which he lived. He was county treasurer of Wheeler county, serving two terms. Funeral services were held at 10:30 o'clock Monday morning, April 14, 1930 at Castle, Roper & Matthews' Chapel, with Rev. Paul C. Johnston officiating. Mrs. Cecil Gates sang "Rock of Ages" and "One Sweetly Solemn Thought." The body was taken to Fairmont, Nebraska, where the final services conducted by Rev. W.F. Perry were held, fifty-six years from the day of his arrival in Fillmore county. Both Rev. Johnston and Rev. Perry gave impressive services and wonderful words of comfort to the family and friends. The music at the grave was furnished by Mrs. Mahlon Kemp, Miss Carrie Dewey, Milton Jolly and W.E. Black. The floral offerings were beautiful. Members of the Masonic lodge were pallbearers in Lincoln and Harlan and Russell Sawyer, Lawrence Searles, Jesse Brown, L.W. Dumond and William Douglas at Fairmont. Those from out of town in attendance at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. William Parkins, Lacon, Illinois; Mrs. Mary Gridley, Omaha, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Currier, Beatrice, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. William Douglas, Norfolk, Nebraska; and Mrs. L.
