Earlier this year he had been a patient for 3 1/2 months at Mercy hospital, Cedar Rapids. Simon Fred Parr was born Jan. 31, 1897 at Wentzville, Mo., a son of William and Frances Parr. On Feb. 12, 1925 he was married at Watkins, Ia., to Vera Schmuecker, who survives. After their marriage they farmed near Van Horne from 1925 to 1934 when they moved to farm near Blairstown. In September of 1966 they retired from farming and moved to 107 West St. NW in Blairstown. He was a member of St. John's Catholic church and the Holy Name Society. Survivors include his wife and five children, William Parr of Marengo, Jack Parr of Belle Plaine, Mrs. Eddie Ternes of Newhall, Harold Parr of Luzerne, and Glenn Parr of Van Horne, also six brothers, Tony, Dan, Ed, Olive, Raymond and Joe Parr, and three sisters, Mrs. Kate Kaimann, Leona Parr, and Mrs. Evelyn Wengler [sic]; and 19 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mrs. Mary Hepperman, and one grandchild, Donny Parr. Funeral services for Mr. Parr were held Monday, Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. in St. John's Catholic church with Msgr. George Stemm officiating. Pallbearers were James Parr, Melvin Brecht, Ervin Schmuecker, Marvin Schmuecker, Virgil Alberts, and Leonard Brecht. Interment was in St. Patrick's cemetery at Watkins.
