Raised on a farm with 3 brothers and 2 sisters, Margaret learned English when she began attending a "one room" school in Nebraska. She later attended high school in Uehling, NE. Read More	The 1920 census says her parents immigrated in 1913 and naturalized in 1919. ================ Kitsap Sun Bremerton, Washington Monday, 7 December 2009 SIRI MARAGET ELISABET JOHNSON QUIGLEY 28 January 1919 ~ 30 November 2009 Siri Margaret Elisabet Johnson Quigley was born January 28, 1919 in Oakland, NE, the eldest daughter of Hjalmer and Hanna Lovisa Johnson, emigrants from Sweden via Ellis Island in *1912 [1913 aboard "Mauritania"]. Raised on a farm with 3 brothers and 2 sisters, Margaret learned English when she began attending a "one room" school in Nebraska. She later attended high school in Uehling, NE. In the mid-1930s, Margaret made her way to Omaha, NE then to San Francisco, CA seeking other opportunities. When World War II began, she supported the war effort working in a defense plant assembling bomber aircraft. She met Joseph Quigley, a sailor in the US Navy, and in 1943 they were married. As a Navy wife, Margaret moved with her family up and down the west coast and Hawaii. The family settled down to a permanent home in Bremerton, WA. After the children left home, she worked in retail at Sears, Roebuck & Co. in Bremerton until her retirement. Church was an important focal point in her life. Wherever they lived, Margaret and family were dedicated members in the Lutheran church. In Bremerton, Margaret and her family were actively engaged in the church life of Messiah Lutheran and more recently, Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Margaret loved reading and always had a book nearby. She enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage and bridge in her later years. She also exhibited creativity in the decoration of her home and in the preparation of meals for celebratory events. Margaret is survived by Timothy S. & Letitia Quigley of Bremerton WA and grandchildren Iain Quigley & Siri Quigley, both of Seattle; Thomas J & Elizabeth Quigley of Springfield, VA and grandchildren Gavin Quigley of Tucson, AZ and Catherine Quigley Aldrich (Michael) of Brooklyn, NY; and by Sara E Quigley of Lake Oswego, OR and grandchildren Brian Wick (Catherine) of Tucson, AZ and Sydne Wick, of St. Alban, England. Joseph, her husband of over 50 years, preceded her in death in 1993. A memorial service will be held at Our Saviour's Lutheran at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2009. Memorials may be made to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 1215 Veneta Avenue, Bremerton, WA 98337 or to Hospice of Kitsap County, 3100 NW Bucklin Hill Road, Silverdale, WA 98383.
