She was joined in the holy bonds of matrimony to Pleasant McNees, at Pleasant Plain, Iowa, December 2, 1866. In the spring of 1876 she came with her husband to the state of Kansas and settled on a homestead north of Canton, where she shared with her companion the hardships and sacrifices incident to the early days of Kansas. Read More	Obituary: SITNAH McNEES Sitnah Paxson was born near Pleasant Plain, Jefferson County, Iowa, January 1, 1848, and died at her home in Canton, Kansas, April 11, 1917. She was joined in the holy bonds of matrimony to Pleasant McNees, at Pleasant Plain, Iowa, December 2, 1866. In the spring of 1876 she came with her husband to the state of Kansas and settled on a homestead north of Canton, where she shared with her companion the hardships and sacrifices incident to the early days of Kansas. On February 1, 1894, she was left to fight the battles of life alone, which she did with much courage and great endurance. Thirteen children were born to this union, one of whom died in infancy. The others are: Mrs. Fred Lake of Eskridge, Kansas; John McNees of Murdock, Kansas; Allen McNees of Norwich, Kansas; Warren McNees of Grandfield, Oklahoma; Mrs. A. H. Barnhart of Downers Grove, Illinois; Harvey McNees of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. A. Klinkerman, Mrs. L. Summerfield, Mrs. R. H. Evans, Mrs. Cloyd Kalb and Joel McNees of Canton were with her during her last illness. Another daughter, Mrs. E. Hartronft, resides in Naperville, Illinois. She was a birthright member of the Quaker church but later joined the M. E. church in Canton of which she was a member at the time of her death. All her life she has lived a conscientious Christian. The past 17 years she has been an invalid , but always cheerful and patient, never heard to complain, her first thought was of her family and others to make them comfortable and happy. On April 5, she fell while getting into her wheelchair, causing a broken limb. With all the care skilled hands and loved ones could give, the shock was more than her frail body could stand. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Barron in the M. E. church in Canton, April 13 at 2:30 pm. The body was laid to rest in Canton cemetery.
