Description	:	Smiley Ivan Rust, one of seven children of Stephen Kent Rust and Mary Elizabeth Bird Rust, was born a (sic) farm near Albion, Nebraska, on April 12, 1892. Smiley grew up and was educated in the Oxbow community near Nelson. Most of his life was spent in the Nelson community and Mountain Grove, Missouri. Smiley grew up and was educated in the Oxbow community near Nelson. Most of his life was spent in the Nelson community and Mountain Grove, Missouri. He was married to Alma Wilma Klawitter in Nelson on April 23, 1912. To this union, four children were born. Smiley was preceded in death by his wife, Alma, who died on May 5, 1976; his parents; one son, Wayne; three brothers, Walter, Roy and Clarence, who died in infancy; and two grandchildren, Gordon Adamson and Valerie Rust. He is survived by a daughter, Mildred (Mrs. Clifford Adamson) of Nelson; two sons, Clyde of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and Donald of Geneva; two sisters, Mrs. Amy Gerken of Oroville, Washington, and Mrs. Maude Norwood of Hastings; one brother, Jess Rust of York; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Smiley passed away after an illness of about three weeks in the Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 86 years and 3 months. Funeral services were held Friday morning, July 14, from the Nelson United Methodist Church, Rev. Clair Kess officiating. Verleen Gharring and Joe Ferebee sang "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross" and were accompanied by Mr. Ivan Schafer. Serving as pallbearers were Steve Rust, Clyde Rust Jr., Lloyd Rust, Harold Rust, Kurt Meyers and Paul Mika. Burial was in the Nelson Cemetery.
