Description	:	Son of David Rough and his wife Anna Rhoades. --- David Rough and his family, and David's brother Jacob Rough, came to Bertrand township, Berrien County Michigan in 1849. Their brothers John R. and George G. Rough, came a couple years later. -------------------------------- m. # 1. Deborah A. "Debby" Bressler (1840-1868). Deborah died at the age of 28 years, and is buried with Solomon in the Portage Prairie Cemetery. --- Solomon and Deborah had three known children: --- 1. Harvey David Daniel Rough. (Associated with "Rough Opera House"). b. March 31, 1872. m. Zula Bay Redden (1878-1960), on June 2, 1906. d. Aug. 14, 1943, in South Bend, IN. Buried: Oak Ridge Cemetery (Section C, Lot 17 - No stone). --- 2. Harry S. "Skeet" Rough. (Local roller skating champ). (Associated with "Rough Opera House"). b. May 23or24, 1873, in Bertrand township. m. Gertrude Kean, in Feb. of 1900. d. June 22, 1943, in South Bend, IN. Buried: Oak Ridge Cemetery (Section C, Lot 17 - No stone). --- Both sons served as managers of the "Rough Opera House" at different times. Jake was Postmaster in Buchanan, MI for a while. --- Solomon and Katherine were later separated or divorced. _____________________________________ m. # 3. Hattie A. Sweeney (1846-1923), on Aug. 4, 1899, in St. Joseph Co. IN. (Hattie is buried in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, in Section C, Lot 85). _____________________________________ The Atlas of 1873 show David's son "Sol" Rough owned the southeast quarter of section 13 in Bertrand township. Sol Rough built a red, white, and blue fence around his yard. It was there for many years, and became a noted landmark. --- Solomon was a partner with his brothers William R., and George H. Rough, in the "Rough Wagon Works". He was also a partner with his brother George in the "Rough Opera House". He also was a partner in the "Pears and Rough" Mill. After moving from Bertrand township, into Buchanan, MI, Solomon's family lived at 118 W. Front Street. --- Solomon died at the age of 73 years, 2 months, and 29 days. His death certificate states that he was the father of six children, only five still living. Solomon was buried near his first wife Deborah, in the Evangelical cemetery, known as the "Portage Prairie Cemetery". _________________________________
