In the sudden and unexpected death of Mrs. Troop, her family and numerous friends feel that their bereavement is deep and painful, while the church of Christ deplores the loss of one of its brightest ornaments. All who ever had the pleasure of an acquaintance with this estimable woman, must remember the many excellent and pleasing traits of her character, and experience in some degree the effects of that praise-worthy and beneficial example which she placed before those who came within the sphere of her influence. Sincere, though unassuming in her piety, extremely amiable and lovely in her disposition, ever gentle and unobtrusive in her manner. She possessed numerous qualities which endeared her to her beloved family, as well as to those less intimately associated with her. But cherished and valued as she was on earth, her home was not here; in His own good time her Heavenly Father was pleased to remove her hence, and another gem now decks the diadem of her Saviour and God. Mrs. Troop’s illness was of short duration, and she as well as her friends were scarcely aware of her danger until in an unexpected moment her spirit sweetly and gently breathed itself away into the repose of Paradise. Perfectly peaceful and serene, she seemed to resign life without a struggle, and those hovering around the dying pillow with emotions of intense anguish and the deepest grief could scarcely believe that she whom they had so much loved was indeed upon the threshold of the unseen world, and just lifting the veil which hides from mortal vision the glories of that “better land.” “Who would not wish to die like those, Whom God’s own Spirit deigns to bless? To sink into that sweet repose, Then wake to perfect happiness?” Mrs. Troop’s remains were removed from Wolfville to Nictaux, and on Tuesday last her body was consigned to its final resting place, where it will repose until the resurrection morn, when “Christ shall bid it rise.” An impressive sermon was preached by the pastor to a deeply affected audience, from Rev. 14c. 15v. “I heard a voice from heaven, saying unto me – write – Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.” This death was an unexpected event. And while the church and connections deplore their loss, may we all so live, that trusting alone in Him who has said, “I am the resurrection and the life,” the period of our dissolution may be characterized by the same resignation and serenity which existed in the last moments of the departed. – Communicated.
