Description	:	"With her children at her bedside, Mrs. Sophia Halvorsen, 85, resident of Otoe county since 1869, died Tuesday at 10:30 pm after an illness that extended over a period of three years. She was bedfast for three months. She was born April 19,1850 at Oslo, Norway, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Swensen, and came to America with her parents in 1865. She spent three years in Chicago, where she married John D. Halvorsen, August 22, 1869. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Halvorsen came directly to Otoe county and homesteaded a farm five miles north and a quarter... She spent three years in Chicago, where she married John D. Halvorsen, August 22, 1869. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Halvorsen came directly to Otoe county and homesteaded a farm five miles north and a quarter mile east of Syracuse. They lived there until December 1, 1899, when they moved to Syracuse. Mr. Halvorsen died in April 1924. Five children were born to them. One died in infancy, and one son, Robert, died in 1925. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Edith Woods, Syracuse, and two sons, Carl of Syracuse, and LeeRoy Halvorsen, of Evansville, Indiana. The entire community feels the loss of this wonderful woman who did her part in building this nation into one of the world's great powers, and this community into one of the most prosperous in the nation. Few persons became so beloved in the hearts of their community as did this noble woman. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the Syracuse Methodist church, Rev. R.R. Kreps in charge. The time of the service has not yet been decided upon. Burial will be at Park Hill cemetery".
