Schaefer, a resident of Carroll county for 53 years and mother of William C. and Fred E. Schaefer, business men of this city, died at her home on Simon avenue Friday night, August 2, 1929, at 1:02 o'clock. She had been in failing health for the last five years, and during the last during the last years waas in turn up and down. For the last two weeks she was bedridden. Mrs. Schaefer was a brave, courageous woman, full of life and ambition, and deeply devoted to her family, who showered her with their love and attention. Through her entire illness, the mother's comfort and pleasure were uppermost in the minds of the husband and children. While she was able to travel, car rides were planned to distant points for her pleasure, and the new home into which she and her husband recently moved, was built to give her a new interest and added comfort. For the last thirty years Mrs. Schaefer was a member of the Royal Neighbors, and was active in that organization as long as her health would permit. Always cheerful and possessing a radiant smile, she made many friends, who, with the family, will mourn her passing. Mrs. Schaefer, as Sophia Schilling was born in Germany, January 14, 1866. When a child of 11 years she came to America with her parents. The family located in Carroll county when they arrived in America 53 years ago. Her home was in Carroll county continuously with the exception of seven years, from 1907 to 1914, when Mr. and Mrs. Schaefer homesteaded in South Dakota. Her marriage to Jacob F. Schaefer took place January 29, 1893. Surviving besides the husband are the three sons and three daughters: Frank G. Schaefer, Mitchell, S.D.; William C. Schaefer, Carroll; Fred E, Schaefer, Carroll; Mrs. Minnie L. Woodworth, Mrs. Bessie O. Thompson and Mrs. Viola G. Vanderheiden, all of Carroll. She is also survived by eight grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. H.C. Schneider officiating. Burial was made in the city cemetery. Those from a distance who attended tho funeral were John Schaefer, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Marsek, Mrs. Walter Sherar and daughter, and Mrs. Curtis and son, all of Omaha.
