Description	:	Sophie (Rabe) Westphalen (1909 - 1965 ) Funeral services were held Thursday, August 12, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church Hanover Township for Mrs. Edlef Westphalen who died August 10. The choir sang, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus, and the congregation sang, "Jerusalem, Thou City Fair and High." Cynthia Meseck accompanied them on the organ. Rev. C. Pannier read the following obituary: Mrs. Edlef Westphalen, nee Sophie Alberta Rabe, was born April 27, 1909 at Ute, Iowa to Gustav and Wilemina Schrieber Rabe. She was baptized as an infant and in her youth was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Ute. On August 23, 1932 she was united in holy matrimony to Edlef Westphalen. Since that time, the couple made its home two miles north of St. Paul's Church, Hanover Township. To this union were born eight children, three sons and five daughters. Her husband and one daughter, Norene, preceded her in death. She is survived by the following children: Harvey at home; Inez of St Paul, Minnesota; Ardis, Mrs. Russell Fischer of Council Bluffs; Wilma of St. Paul, Minnesota; Larry of Vermillion, South Dakota; Sharon, Mrs. John Kondes of Minneapolis Minnesota; and Russell at home. Also surviving is one brother, Alfred Rabe of Ricketts; nine grandchildren and numerous friends, relatives and acquaintances. She was a member of St. Paul's Ladies Aid and as such served in different offices.
