Westphalen Larry E Westphalen, age 76, of Sioux City died Sunday December 31, 2017 at his residence. Larry was born in Crawford County, Iowa on October 27, 1941 the son of Edlef and Sophie (Rabe) Westphalen. He attended and graduated from Schleswig Schools. He then attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, where he received his degree in accounting. He then received his designation as a Certified Public Accountant. Larry proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy from 1962-1964. He was united in marriage with Shirley Rix on May 10, 1964 in Lytton, Iowa. The family moved to Sioux City in 1970 from Burlington, Iowa, then moved to their farm, just East of Sioux City in 1972 He also had his own accounting business Larry E. Westphalen CPA.. Larry was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Larry was a very active member of his church, where he enjoyed participating in worship praising God. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, farming and spending time with all of his family. Those left behind to cherish his life and memories are his wife Shirley, his children: Mike Westphalen and his wife Stephanie, Judy Stanton and her husband Scott, Dan Westphalen and his wife Bridget, Sarah Westphalen, Mark Westphalen, and Rachel Wolfe and her husband Jason. Larry is also survived by his seven grandchildren, a brother Russell Westphalen, and a sister Inez Mohr. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 infant grandchildren, one brother and 4 sisters.
