Olson passed peacefully in her home, due to pancreatic cancer. Sophie was ready to meet her maker and be joined again by her loving husband, Art. Sophie was born April 30, 1944, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan to parents George and Lena Olson. She attended grade school in Beaver Flat, Saskatchewan until moving to Hovdestad for the 6th grade. She continued school in Hovdestad until her last year of high school when she attended the Lutheran Collegian Bible Institute (LCBI) in Outlook, Saskatchewan. Sophie went on to spend three years studying at the Weyburn Provencal Psychiatric Hospital in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. On June 11, 1966, Sophie married Art Olson at the Nordland Lutheran Church in Steward Valley Saskatchewan. They moved to a ranch northwest of Killdeer, North Dakota until 1979. Then they spent a year in Prey, Montana and moved to a ranch on the Tongue River, south of Miles City, Montana until 1991. From there, the couple moved to Deadwood and other surrounding Rapid City areas to explore new interests. Around the year 2000, Art and Sophie moved back to Miles City where they would later open an antique shop named "Art's Antiques". Art and Sophie raised four loving children together. Throughout the years, Sophie was engaged in many different activities and jobs. In her younger years, she participated as a figure skater, a hockey goalie, and was even in a professional curling league. Along with being a wife and mother, Sophie was editor and publisher of Tarentaise Times for 14 years. She was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent in Killdeer, North Dakota, and a 4-H leader for 12 years. She was the founder of Tarentaise Taries, and a part of several clubs including Cow Bells and a china painting club. Sophie was always very active in the community; she hosted several bible study groups over the years, weight watchers meetings, as well as many Halloween parties. She also volunteered for hospice and pregnancy outreach. Sophie enjoyed painting and crafting. She is well known for her handmade Christmas ornaments that she often gifted to family and friends. Sophie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Art, her brother Ordale Olson, her sister, Gladis Wiebe, as well as numerous Aunts and Uncles. She is survived by her four children, Brian (Melody) Olson, Wade (Tammy) Olson, Leann (Shelby) Sowers, and Lyle (Linda) Olson, eight grandchildren: Brooke Olson, Brittnee Olson, Dannon Olson, Craig Sowers, Traven Olson, Blake Sowers, Ashleigh Olson, and Gemma Olson, as well as one great granddaughter, Danika Pyle. Family will receive friends from 4-6 on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at the Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City, Montana. Funeral Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. on August 5, 2016 at Grace Bible Church in Miles City. Burial will follow at the Eastern Montana State Veterans Cemetery, Miles City, MT. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements.
