Olsen, 60, a former resident of this community. Mr. Olsen passed away Monday afternoon, December 17, at a Knoxville, Iowa hospital following an illness of several years.... Olsen, 60, a former resident of this community. Mr. Olsen passed away Monday afternoon, December 17, at a Knoxville, Iowa hospital following an illness of several years.... He was born May 20, 1896 in Denmark to M. S. and Amelia Olsen. They came to the United States when he was a child, going first to Kescott, Kansas, and moved to Nebraska, near Wolbach in 1913. Mr. Olsen was a veteran of World War I, having enlisted July 9, 1918 at St. Paul and serving as a private in Battery C. of the 29th field Artillery. He was discharged January 2, 1919 at Camp funston, Kansas. Mr. Olsen and Bertha Brandt were married March 8, 1921. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Mr. Olsen had lived in Grand Island since 1928. Surviving are a daughter, Miss Marcella Olsen, Grand Island, and two brothers, Charle H. Olsen, Scottsbluff and Axel Olsen Heinmann, Fayette, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife, who died February 11, 1954 and by a son, his parents and one sister.
