Description	:	CONCORDIA -- Sister Redempta Eilert died Monday, July 25, 2011, at Nazareth Motherhouse, Concordia. She was 97 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 77 years. She was born in Scottville on Nov. 29, 1913, to Frederic and Elizabeth Selting Eilert, the second of 12 children, and was baptized Margaret Elizabeth. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, on Sept. 8, 1933. On March 19, 1934, Margaret received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Redempta. Read More	CONCORDIA -- Sister Redempta Eilert died Monday, July 25, 2011, at Nazareth Motherhouse, Concordia. She was 97 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 77 years. She was born in Scottville on Nov. 29, 1913, to Frederic and Elizabeth Selting Eilert, the second of 12 children, and was baptized Margaret Elizabeth. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, on Sept. 8, 1933. On March 19, 1934, Margaret received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Redempta. She pronounced first vows on March 19, 1935, and final vows on Aug. 15, 1938. Sister Redempta received a B.S. in chemistry from Marymount College, Salina, and an M.S. in biochemistry from the Institute of St. Thomas, Cincinnati, Ohio. From 1942-1988, she taught and was department head of the chemistry department at Marymount. In 1988, Sister Redempta retired from teaching at Marymount but continued in teaching GED courses and tutoring. In 1998, she retired to the Motherhouse in Concordia, where she remained active working in the garden, playing cards (bridge) and her hobby, crocheting, until her death. Sister Redempta was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and two sisters. She is survived by two sisters, Rita Mans, of Osborne, and Cecelia Streit, of Tipton, and a host of nieces and nephews. A Bible vigil service will be at 7 p.m. tonight, July 26, in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel, with Sister Bette Moslander as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, in the Motherhouse Chapel, with Father Jack Schlaf presiding. The burial will be in Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery. Memorials for Sister Redempta Eilert may be given to Sisters of St. Joseph Health Care/Retirement Fund or Apostolic Works of the Sisters, P.O. Box 279, Concordia 66901. Nutter Mortuary, 116 E. Sixth St., Concordia, is in charge of arrangements.
