Description	:	William Kenneth "Bill" Gaines, of Greenville, SC, husband for 48 years of Jo (Edwards) Gaines, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, June 6, 2006. Born in Greenville on May 2, 1936, he was a son of the late Rev. Joseph William Gaines and Minnie Olivia (Hamilton) Gaines. After graduating from District Five High School (now James F. Byrnes) in Spartanburg County in 1954, he joined the Air Force, where he honorably served his country for eight years. Mr. Gaines retired from the Greenville Water System. Born in Greenville on May 2, 1936, he was a son of the late Rev. Joseph William Gaines and Minnie Olivia (Hamilton) Gaines. After graduating from District Five High School (now James F. Byrnes) in Spartanburg County in 1954, he joined the Air Force, where he honorably served his country for eight years. Mr. Gaines retired from the Greenville Water System. Bill enjoyed his home on Lake Secession and was an avid water skier. He was a faithful member of Berea First Baptist Church, where for many years he was the manager of the sound system. Surviving Mr. Gaines, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Nicole Gaines and Michele Gaines Whitfield and her husband, Scott, both of Greenville; two grandchildren, Brandy McCoy of the home and Brittany Whitfield; a sister, Sarah G. Fellwock, and her husband, Leo; a brother, the Rev. Ted Hamilton Gaines, and his wife, Mary Louise; a brother-in-law, Leo Bryant; a sister-in-law and her husband, Margaret and Bud Merchant; four nieces, Teresa Hickman, Betty Harjula, Judy Rivers and Anne Gottschalk; a nephew, Steve Bryant; and his stepmother, Annie Mae Lyda Gaines, and her children, Bruce Lyda, Carole Meyer, Beryl Rumfelt, and Susan Lyda. Mr. Gaines was predeceased by a sister, Betty G. Bryant. The family received friends at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest, 6710 White Horse Road, on Thursday, June 8, 2006 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services were held at Berea First Baptist Church, 529 Farrs Bridge Road, conducted by the Rev. Ted Hamilton Gaines and Dr. Marshall Sargent. Burial was at Graceland East Memorial Park.
