Stanley Duane Mathews, 61, formerly of Bloomfield, died Sunday, July 30, 2006, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. He was born November 19, 1944 in Ottumwa, IA to Forrest F. and Helen F. Dixon Mathews. Duane was a life long resident until he moved to Marshalltown in November of 2000. He was a self employed mechanic and worked at the Burgman?s Auto Parts Store for several years. During the Vietnam War he served with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Reed-Whisler Post 78 of the American Legion, Izaak Walton League, former member of the Bloomfield Fire Department, and the Bloomfield Bowling Association. He is survived by three daughters, Natasha Finneran and her husband, Kevin, of Round Rock, TX, Nannette Smith of Ottumwa, IA, and Nicole Mathews of Round Rock, TX; one son, Nathan Mathews of Austin TX; three grandchildren, Jordan and Jaylinn Smith, and Kaden Finneran. Also surviving are three sisters, Shirley (Robert) Willcoxson of Bloomfield, Linda (Jack) Reese of Cedar Rapids, IA, Kathy (Mike) McClurg of Bloomfield, IA; two brothers, Phillip (Shelia) Mathews of Hiawatha, IA, and Ron (Teresa) Mathews of Bloomfield, IA. Duane was preceded in death by his parents; and stepfather, Edwin Cummings. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2006, at the Henkenius-Priester Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the Rev. Kevin Gingerich officiating. Cremation was accorded at his request. Burial of the cremains will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery with military rites by Reed Whisler Post 78 of the American Legion. Visitation will be open after 9 a.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2006, with the family present from 6 till 8 p.m. to receive friends. A memorial has been established in his name to the Veterans Administration Home in Marshalltown or to the Bloomfield Bowling Association.
