Read More	Stanley Edward Foster Obit Stanley Edward Foster, 54, Friend, died Monday,Dcc,23,1996,at Friend following a long battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 19, 1942 to Charles Edward and Tressie (Mull) Foster on a farm in Butler County near Ulysses. The family moved to Seward County when he was two years old. He attended school in Seward and graduated in 1960 from Beaver Crossing High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics at the University of Nebraska in 1965. During his college years, he played the trumpet in the O.K. Jones Dance Band, as well as the university marching band. After graduation, he joined the Peace Corps and served in Malaysia from 1965 to 1967. Upon his return to Nebraska, he shared his Peace Corps experiences with many organizations and groups. He began his teaching career in Culbertson and taught science and biology at Friend High School from 1970 to 1974. He also taught farm and ranch management classes at Southeast Community College in Lincoln. He married Beverly Trinder on Dec. 27, 1970, in Denver, Colo. They lived in the Friend area, where Mr. Foster also farmed until 1993. He became a legislative aid for Sens. Harold Sieck and Lorraine Langford in 1985, and in 1987, he joined Farmer's and Merchant's Bank of Milford as a loan officer. In February of 1993, he was appointed by President Bill Clinton to the post of state director for the Farmer's Home Administration (FmHA), which is now called the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development office. Mr. Foster was a member of the Beaver Crossing United Methodist Church, where he was a lay leader and Sunday school teacher. He was director and past president of the Seward County Rural Public Power District and served on the Nebraska State Ethanol Board. He was a member of Farm Bureau and was an active 4-H leader in Seward County. He was active in FFA since high school. He was also active in politics and interested in youth activities, especially 4-H projects for die Seward County Fair. He enjoyed public speaking and prepared speeches for church, school and state activities, and also served as master of ceremonies on many occasions. In 1990, he was given the Nebraska Soybean Growers Association Young Leader Award, and within the past few weeks, his agency was honored with the U.S Department of Agriculture's Hammer Award for improving and reinventing government. Survivors include his wife, Beverly Foster, Friend; sons, Cory and Casey Foster, Friend; daughter, Katey Foster, Friend; parents, Charles "Ed" and Tressie Foster, Friend; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Steve Ritchie, Crete; and five nieces. Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 27, at the Beaver Crossing United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carl W. Trahan-True officiating. Burial was at Beaver Crossing Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Rose, Dick E. Miller, Marvin Kraus, Burdette Piening, Charles Cogswell and Wes Eberspacher. Honorary pallbearers were members of Rural Development, Lee Sander, Byron Fischer, Denise Meeks, Bob Jedlicka, Dale Wemhoff, Cliff Kumm and Lennis Hogsdon.
