Educated in Superior, he graduated from Superior High School in 1938. On Sept.5, 1941, in Portland, Ore., he was inducted in the Army Air Corps and served in the 37th Pursuit Squadron as staff sergeant and in the 365th Bombardment Wing during World War II having earned a Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge and American Defense Service Ribbon. Educated in Superior, he graduated from Superior High School in 1938. On Sept.5, 1941, in Portland, Ore., he was inducted in the Army Air Corps and served in the 37th Pursuit Squadron as staff sergeant and in the 365th Bombardment Wing during World War II having earned a Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge and American Defense Service Ribbon. He was honorably discharged Sept. 19, 1945, at Fort Leavenworth, after serving in Tunisia, Sicily, Naples-Foggia and Rome-Arno. On July 22,1945. in Superior, he married Rosa Lee Warneking. To this union five children were born: Larry, Kay, Jeanette, Cindy and Stanley, Jr. He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation for 34 years as a surveyor and map marker. He was a member of the American Legion and Trinity Lutheran Church both of Grand Island. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of Grand Island; two sons, Larry, Minneapolis, Minn., and Stanley Jr., Norfolk, Va.; three daughters, Kay Morse, Bailey, Colo.; Jeanette Imhoff, Manhattan, and Cindy Thornbrue, Suffolk, Va.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services were held Tuesday from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, with Pastor Paul Albrecht officiating. Military rites were by Superior American Legion. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior. Superior Express September 10, 1998.
