Description	:	Stanley John Nordlund, age 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Aug. 14, 2012, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City. A celebration of his life was Aug. 18, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Loup City, with Pastor Del Unruh officiating. Burial was at Tallin Cemetery near Arnold. Stanley was born April 1, 1927, to Axel and Mabel (Tallin) Nordlund at the family farm on Tallin Table. Mabel was told she had given birth to a baby girl and was then handed a precious little baby boy "April Fools"! He was the youngest of six children. Stanley married Lilly May Hurn of Callaway, June 20, 1945. To this union three children were born: Linda, James and Debra. In 1971 Lucille Gay Dill joined the family. After Stanley and Lilly May were married they lived with Axel and Mabel. After his father's death, Stanley & Lilly May remained on the family farm to assist his mother. A few years later the Tallin Farm was sold and the family, including Mabel, moved to Sargent for a short time before moving to the Cumro community southwest of Ansley. Stanley received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in his early 20's and was faithful to his Lord and Savior until his death. Stanley loved teaching Sunday school, work days at Homeward Trail Bible Camp and helping out at church in any way he could. He was a man that "talked the talk" and "walked the walk". Stanley loved farm life and was always whistling and singing while doing the chores and milking the cows. Many wonderful family memories were made on this family farm. In 1984, Stanley and Lilly May moved to Loup City. Stanley drove a contract mail route from Loup City to Taylor. March 27, 1991, Lilly May died in an automobile accident. They had been married 47 years. Stanley married Elvina Carpenter, Aug. 22, 1992. They had only been married 1 1/2 years when Elvina passed away, Jan. 25, 1994. Stanley continued to drive the mail route only fully retiring just a few years ago. He also did electrical work and handyman work. He was always willing to help anyone who called upon him. May 25, 2003 Stanley married longtime family friend Ruby (Dill) McKnight. Ruby and her children Eddie, David, Marina and Nellene and their families were welcomed into his family. In July 2010, they moved to Off Broadway in Broken Bow. Ruby passed away Nov. 18, 2011. Following Ruby's death, due to his own failing health, Stanley moved to Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Stanley loved the staff at Rose Lane and was given excellent care there. Preceding Stanley in death were his parents; three wives Lilly May, Elvina and Ruby; brothers Eldridge, Reuben, and baby Clarence; sisters Ruth Massie and Helen Alfred; granddaughter Sheri Majors; great-granddaughter Braya Gans; brothers-in-law, Gifford Massie, Wayne Alfred, Bob Anderson, Ralph Wills, George (Fay) Hurn, John Hurn, Charlie Hurn, Hollis Tate and Clair Snyder; Baby William Hurn and Baby Bobby Hurn; sisters-in-law, Martha Nordlund and Lewellen Hurn. He is survived by daughter, Linda and husband Everett Donelson of Aurora, Colo.; son, James Nordlund and wife Grace of Phillips, Nebr.; daughter, Debra and husband John Frost of Minot, ND; and foster daughter, Lucille Gay and husband Larry Kennedy of Exeter, Nebr. Stanley is also survived by 12 grandchildren; Sheila, Mark, Rodney, Randy, Rhonda, Daniel, Johnna, Lance, Louis "Ty", Lana, Daurice and Jenni and 24 great-grandchildren; step-children, Eddie McKnight, David (Brenda) McKnight, Marina Burson and Nellene (Darren) Martin; brother-in-law, Harold (Opal) Hurn; sisters-in-law, Neola Nordlund, Iva Snyder, Bonnie (Jim)Tofflemire and Jennie Anderson. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and friends and a caring church family. Published: Custer County Chief September 14, 2012
