Description	:	ARTIST, MACHINIST, TEACHER, DIRECTOR Stephen Ashton , formerly of Whidden Street and Holden Street, Lowell, died unexpectedly on June 10, 1980 at Beaumont Hospital in Lancaster, England at age 85. He was known for his landscape house portraits. Mr. Ashton was born in Glossop, Derbyshire, England, on October 2, 1894, the son of the late John Henry and Eliza Ann (Booth) Ashton. He was known for his landscape house portraits. Mr. Ashton was born in Glossop, Derbyshire, England, on October 2, 1894, the son of the late John Henry and Eliza Ann (Booth) Ashton. He came to this country in 1914, and had married Ida Stancombe in 1918. For over 45 years, he was the Director of Safety Services for the Lowell chapter of the American Red Cross. At the time of his death, he had been vacationing in Morecambe, England, where he had spent his summers for the past 21 years. He is survived by three nieces, Mrs. Mildred Silva of Wilmington, Mrs. Mae Fletcher of Lowell, and Mrs. Edna Dowrey of Luray, VA; three nephews, Mr. Harold Noble of Westford, Mr. Arthur Stancombe of Griffin, GA, and Mr. George Higginbottom of Holliston.
