Description	:	STEPHEN FRANCIS DODSON Stephen was born and raised in Mercer County, Illinois. He was the son of Nancy Jane (Mitchel) Mosby and her second husband, Stephen Dodson. Stephen had at least four older siblings by his mother's first marriage; Mary Jane Mosby, Jefferson Monroe Mosby, John Wesley Mosby and William Henry Mosby. Their father died in 1840 when William Henry was only about 9 months old. Stephen's parents were married in 1841 in Millersburg, Mercer County, Illinois. Read More	STEPHEN FRANCIS DODSON Stephen was born and raised in Mercer County, Illinois. He was the son of Nancy Jane (Mitchel) Mosby and her second husband, Stephen Dodson. Stephen had at least four older siblings by his mother's first marriage; Mary Jane Mosby, Jefferson Monroe Mosby, John Wesley Mosby and William Henry Mosby. Their father died in 1840 when William Henry was only about 9 months old. Stephen's parents were married in 1841 in Millersburg, Mercer County, Illinois. Sadly his father died just a couple years after he was born. His mother married a third time to Henry Crittenden on July 13, 1845. To this union was born Alvira and Harley, giving Stephen two more half siblings. Stephen's three older brothers all served in the Civil War. Jefferson Monroe was killed in action at The Battle of Missionary Ridge in Chattanooga, Tennessee. John Wesley and William Henry both served with CO G 124th Illinois Infantry. John was injured and captured and held prisoner before being released at Camp Douglas, in Chicago. William was also injured and mustered out early due to his injuries. It's possible that Stephen also served in the Infantry during the Civil War but the records I found were very vague and there are several Stephen Dodson's so it wasn't clear if the records belonged to this Stephen or not? Stephen was married twice. His first wife was Mary A Malcolm. They were married on Sept 28, 1867 in New Boston, Illinois. To this union was born one daughter, Geneva Jane and two sons, Charles F and Warrington Dodson. After the death of his mother in 1870 he moved his family to Iowa where their second child was born, but they must have returned to Illinois as their third child was born in Mercer County. His wife Mary died sometime between Warrington's birth in 1878 and the 1800 census as 38 year old Stephen is listed as widowed, living in Kearney, Buffalo, Nebraska as a boarder and working as a Liveryman. His children are not listed with him. On Nov 28, 1882 Stephen married Wilhelmina Frances "Minnie" Heyte in Grand Island, Hall, Nebraska. She was the daughter of German immigrant, Fritz Heyte. To this union was born seven children; Stephen Frederick b.1885–d.1948, Grace Dott b.1887–d.1972, Robert Edward Lee b.1890–d.1971, Twins Lela Marbel b.1892–d.1984 & Lulu Mable b.1892–d.1981 , Walter Ralston b.1894–d.1979 and Thomas George b.1898–d.1988. The majority of their lives were spent in Nebraska except for short period of time when they lived in Oklahoma on the Osage and Kaw Indian Reservation where Stephen's occupation is listed as a farmer. Stephen passed away in 1922 at the age of 80 and is buried in the Robb cemetery in Smithfield, Gosper County, Nebraska along side his second wife Minnie.
