Brown, 76, a resident of Lewellen for the past twenty-five years, were held at the Methodist church in Lewellen at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. A. O. Kenyon officiating. Interment was made in the Ash Hollow cemetery. Mr. Brown was taken suddenly ill only a short time ago and at the time of his death he was believed to have been improving but took a relapse and died about 4 o'clock Monday morning [editor: May 16, 1932]. He was born in Crawford County, Illinois, on February 4, 1856, and lived there until he was twenty-one. He then moved to Beloit, Kans., where he lived for four years and latter moved to Atchison county, Missouri, where he lived until 1884. In that year he moved to Greeley county, Nebraska, and in 1907 moved to Lewellen where he was one of the first pioneers to take out a Kincaid north of Lewellen. He has lived there since that time. Surviving Mr. Brown are: his widow, Phoebe, and five sons, Ray, Frank, Louis and Millard all of Lewellen, and James R. of Lander, Wyoming and two sisters, Mrs. Sarah E. Benedict of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Mrs. Lizzie Mason of Jennings, Okla. Two children, a son and daughter, preceded Mr. Brown in death. Twenty-three grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive. He was married at Phelps City, Mo., on February 14, 1883. About thirty-five years ago he became a member of the Baptist church to which he was always a loyal and faithful member.
