Description	:	Steve A. Czarnik, 95, of Genoa, passed to his Eternal Home, Monday, December 31, 2012, at Genoa Community Long Term Care in Genoa. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, January 3, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Krakow. Fr. Bill L'Heureux will officiate. Interment will be in the Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Krakow with military honors by the Edward H. Larson Post #144 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be today, 5-7 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. vigil service, all at the church. Steve A. Czarnik was born on November 27, 1917, in Fullerton, NE, to Joseph and Helen (Foreman) Czarnik. He attended grade school in Nance County. In 1941, he was drafted into the army and after his training, he served in WWII under the leadership of General Patton. He was a SST in field artillery and fought battles in Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge, Northern France, and Rhineland, Ardennes in central Europe. Steve earned the good conduct medal, GAME Ribbon, the Silver Star Medal and American Theater of Operation Ribbon. He was honorably discharged on October 19, 1945. After his military service, he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad until 1950 and returned to farming in rural Genoa. He married Jane Boryca on May 2, 1950, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Krakow. He was a lifetime member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church and also belonged to the Genoa American Legion. Steve enjoyed farming, fishing, playing cards, sharing war stories and was proud of his Catholic faith. He enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors and his greatest love was his family, especially his five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Steve is survived by his wife, Jane; son, Stephen (Sue) Czarnik, of Genoa; daughter, Ann Storm, of Plattsmouth; five grandchildren, Heather (Adam) Neuhaus, Ryan (Jessica) Czarnik, Eric Czarnik and Melissa, Gina (Christian) Bessmer, and Stephanie Storm; and two great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Audrey Neuhaus. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Monica Tworek, and Sophie Cheloha; one nephew; brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law. Memorials by be directed to Masses or to family wishes. Arrangements by Rice Funeral Home of Genoa.
