He was baptized and confirmed in the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Geneva. After graduating from Geneva Public Schools in 1967, he attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, joined the Peace Corps and received a hardship leave due to his fathers illness and death. He continued to work on the family farm for the remainder of that year. Shortly after getting married, he worked on the Schelkopf family farm near Shickley, and then with various architectural firms as a mechanical engineer and Novartis being his last place of employment. Steven was united in marriage to Mary Mildred Schelkopf in Lincoln, on December 21, 1974. To this union three children were born, Conly, Micah and Jana. Steven was a devoted husband and father and supported his family in all of their endeavors. He was a loyal friend, and trusted advisor through the various travels of life. His religious faith and free spirit was an inspiration forever. Besides caring for his family, he was very involved in caring for neighbors for whatever their needs were. He loved nature, taking his kids fishing, to play soccer, basketball, dance, and to the Speidel farm. His favorite time of day was early mornings where had to have his coffee and do his crosswords/Sudoku puzzles. He loved Clint Eastwood movies and when they ran for a week straight they knew hed not get any work done. Stevens family includes: sons, Conly Wythers, Micah Wythers, daughter, Jana Wythers; mother, Beverly Wright; brothers, sisters-in-law, Mark Wythers, Dave and Jeanie Wythers, Todd and Carol Wythers; sister, brother-in-law, Kellee and Roger Edgar; nieces nephews; brothers-in-law and spouses, Bob Schelkopf Russell and Bernie Schelkopf, Sterling Schelkopf, Stan and Donna Schelkopf, sister-in-law and spouse, Sharon and Dewain Disney. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Wythers, and father, James Wythers. Funeral services were held June 17, at First United Methodist Church in Lincoln. The Rev. Jim Keck and the Rev. Larry Moffett officiated. Musical selections were Amazing Grace, Lord, You have Come to the Lakeshore, and Here I Am, Lord. Pallbearers were Dave Wythers, Mark Wythers, Todd Wythers, Lon Slepicka, Steven Speidel and Mike Jayberg. Honorary pallbearers included Jerry Otte, Alan Slepicka, Bob Schelkopf, Dewain Disney, P.R. Farmer and Chad Wythers. Interment was in Geneva Public Cemetery with Pastor Kim Dunker officiating. The Nebraska Signal June 2008
