Description	:	SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- Steve Vos, 89, of Sioux Center died Thursday, April 29, 2004, at Sioux Center Community Nursing Facility. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Sanctuary of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center, with the Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Burial will be held prior to the memorial service in Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 2:30 to 4 p.m., at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center. There will be a family prayer service 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Steven Vos was born Feb. 4, 1915, in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. At the age of four, he immigrated to the United States with his family. They settled near Hawarden, Iowa, where Steve was raised on various farms in the Hawarden and Lebanon, Iowa area. In 1940, he was united in marriage to Fannie Swier at her parents' home near Hawarden. Steve and Fannie lived in Artesia, Calif., where Steve drove a hay truck. They were blessed with two children. In August of 1950, Fannie died from injuries sustained in an auto accident. After Fannie's death, Steve and his two children moved to Sioux Center. Steve drove truck hauling gravel for Hyman's Construction. He met Catherine (Leusink) Beukelman, and the two were married on Jan. 18, 1952, in Sioux Center. She recently preceded him in death on April 4, 2004. In 1959, the couple moved their family to Lakewood, Calif., where Steve drove school bus for many years. In 1980, they returned to Sioux Center. He was a member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. In his spare time, Steve mowed lawns for others along with working in his yard. He enjoyed fishing and camping. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Phil Cohen of Riverside, Calif.; son, Harvey Vos of Orange County, Calif., daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Chuck Baumbusch of Hacienda Heights, Calif.; and son and daughter-in-law, Arnold and Cheryl Beukelman of Sioux Center; along with 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Steve is also survived by a sister, Greta Kooi of Sioux Center; sisters-in-law, Minnie Zwaart of Hawarden, Dena De Jager of California; Hattie Berghorst of Hull, Iowa and Jeanette Leusink, Genevieve Leusink and Tena Leusink, all of Sioux Center; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
