She married Wiert Johnson on 25 July 1875 in the Netherlands. He was born 25 August 1857, in the Netherlands. They came to America in 1882 and their first place of residence in this country was in Hardin County, Iowa. Ten years later, in 1892, the family came to Wright County, Iowa. They were faithful members of the Wright Christian Reformed Church. Wiert served as an elder of the church for ten years. In 1921, after many years of active farm work, they retired and moved to the town of Kanawha. In 1926 Wiert suffered a stroke from which he never fully recovered. His condition made it advisable for them to give up their home and live with their children. On Friday, 29 September 1934, Stientje (Abbas) Johnson passed away at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 21 days. "She was a loving mother, and enjoyed being at home with her family" Seven months later, on Monday evening, 15 April 1935, Wiert Johnson passed away at the home of his daughter, Fannie and her husband, Burt Brouwer. During the last years of his life he was unable to be out of the house. Both are interred in the Wright Christian Reformed Church Cemetery, Wright County, Iowa. Obituary Mrs. Wiert Johnson, nee Abbas, was born April 8, 1848, at Ostfriesland, Germany, and passed away September 29 at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 21 days. She was married to Wiert Johnson on July 25, 1875. This union was blessed with nine children of which four preceded her in death. She came to America in the year 1882 and moved to Wright county in the fall of 1892. She made confession of faith in the Netherlands and has been a faithful member of the Christian Reformed church of Wright county. She was a loving mother, and enjoyed being at home with her mother. She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, who has been an invalid for the past eight years; also three sons and two daughters, namely, George and Mrs. Bert Brower, of Kanawha; John and Wiert, at home; Mrs. H. P. Eekhoff, of Reading, Minn. Ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. H. Riekens, of Kanawha, also survive, beside a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 2, in the Wright Christian Reformed church, the Rev. J. M. Voortman in charge. The text of his sermon was Hebrews 9:27. Interment was in the church cemetery. __________________________________________ Funeral services were held at the Wright Reform church near Kanawha Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. Wiert Johnson, 86, who passed away Friday at the farm home of the Johnsons. The Rev. J. M. Voortman officiated at the funeral. Music was furnished by the choir. Burial was in the Wright cemetery. Stientje Abbas Johnson was born on April 8, 1848, at Wienner Ausfriedland, Germany, and came to this country after her marriage to Wiert Johnson in Holland July 25, 1975. To this union seven children were born of whom two, Mrs. Abbie Willemson and Aaron preceded their mother in death. The other children are (Fannie) Mrs. Bert Brower, (Mary) Mrs. Peter Eekhoff, Wiert, John and George, all within the vicinity of Kanawha. Besides her children and her husband Mrs. Johnson is survived by one sister, Mrs. H. Riekens of Kanawha, ten grandchildren of whom two, Mrs. Roy McNeish and Wiert Willemson, live in Kanawha; three great grandchildren and other relatives. The Johnsons are pioneers of this vicinity having lived on the same farm south of Kanawha in Wright County since 1892 with the exception of four years when they lived in Kanawha.
