Born in Sweetland, he was a son of Teman and Harriett (Joudrey) Thompson. He served in the Second World War from 1939-1944 with the Royal Canadian Air Force and then returned to Lunenburg where he co-owned and operated South Shore Sales until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg; Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 23; and was a former member of Lunenburg Board of Trade and the Lunenburg Citizens Band. He was an avid outdoor sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Lunenburg Rod and Gun Club and the LaHave Salmon Association. He is survived by his wife, the former Ann Geary; daughter, Heather Berryman and husband Bill, Wolfville; sons, Donald and wife Judy, Prince Rupert, B.C.; Douglas and wife Mary, Liverpool; Andrew, San Francisco; sisters, Marion Graham, Saint John; Mildred (Mrs. Edward Smith) Bellingham, Wash.; Thelma Abrahamsen, Lunenburg; Edith (Mrs. James Morgetroyd), Ontario; Viola (Mrs. Malcolm Parsons), Gwen Jones and Ruth Lahey, Saint John; brother, Fred Thompson, Saint John; grandchildren, Jamie and Patrick Berryman; Stephanie and Michelle Thompson; Adiar, Graeme and Bronwyn Thompson; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Palmer; grandson, Robbie. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today in Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg, Archdeacon Reginald MacDonald officiating. Private family interment will be in the Old Blockhouse Cemetery. Family request friends refrain from wearing perfumes. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's Anglican Church, support Service Group (Adults with Disabilities) or to the Lunenburg Fire Department.
